Christine Chen

Christine has extensive experience assisting international clients with their business interests in Taiwan. She regularly advises clients on issues ranging from initial entity selection to local operational issues and dispute resolution. Christine’s clients span a wide variety of industries and include several leading consumer brands, one of the world’s largest multimedia groups, an international television network, and a world leading technology company.

Christine frequently assists clients in the selection and establishment of the most appropriate form of local business presence, such as representative offices, branches, limited liability companies, and corporations.

After establishing a local presence, many clients continue to engage Christine for advice and guidance on local operational matters including employment, immigration, data protection, telecommunications, and tax issues. Her employment practice covers contentious and non-contentious matters, including advising on employee handbooks, termination matters, and localization of employment agreements. She has assisted in applications for work permits and residency for foreign executives, as well as Taiwan entry permits for Chinese nationals. Christine regularly advises clients on data protection and telecommunications issues and helps clients plan and manage their tax liabilities in Taiwan.

Christine’s international corporate clients also rely on her for dispute resolution and enforcement matters. She handles employment, intellectual property, and general commercial disputes and has litigated over 300 cases since she was admitted to practice in Taiwan in 1999. Christine protects her clients’ intellectual property rights through close cooperation with customs officials and police to interdict counterfeit goods and conduct market sweeps. She and her team then conduct the resulting litigation. In 2009, Christine won the largest trademark infringement award ever in Taiwan for a luxury brand. In addition to purely domestic actions, Christine assists clients in enforcing foreign judgments in Taiwan.

Christine is an active member of many international professional organizations, including the Inter-Pacific Bar Association where she serves as Vice-Chair of the Employment Committee, the American Chamber of Commerce Taiwan, where she co-chairs the HR Committee, the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) where she serves as the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee Convener (Taiwan Group), and is a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers.

Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese, and English, Christine received her LL.B. from National Taiwan University’s College of Law. She is licensed to practice in Taiwan.
