Gregory A. Buxton
Greg started his legal career as a corporate finance attorney in New York. He continued his corporate finance practice with a New York firm in Hong Kong before relocating to Taiwan. Greg’s current practice spans foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital investments, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, and a variety of other general commercial transactions. His clients range from startup enterprises to US and European listed multinational corporations. Greg’s clients operate in a wide variety of industries including biotechnology, ecommerce, electronic devices, food and beverage, health and wellness, and pharmaceuticals.
Greg currently focuses primarily on Asian inbound foreign direct investment, equity investments, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. Greg helps multinational clients purchase companies and assets in Taiwan and throughout Asia. He also structures and executes equity investments for both local and foreign clients, assisting these clients with all stages of the investment process from initial corporate structuring and tax planning through to deal negotiation, documentation, and execution.
While not his primary focus, Greg has experience in commercial lending arrangements, including the purchase and sale of non-performing secured loan portfolios. He also advises clients on laws and regulations relevant to emerging technologies, including fintech, virtual currencies, NFTs, and token offerings.
In addition to his legal accomplishments, Greg has significant international business experience. Greg began his professional career as a management consultant in Taiwan and subsequently co-founded a boutique investment company focused on online technology startups in Asia.
Greg has a B.A. from Harvard College and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He speaks English and Mandarin Chinese. Greg is a member of the New York Bar and is registered as an Attorney of Foreign Legal Affairs with Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice. Greg is a member of the International Bar Association, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan, and the Harvard Club of Taiwan.
